Manners Monday

This week is about where your dog sleeps.

When I first got Duke I didn't allow him up on any furniture or the bed. I did this for several reasons.
  1. He is hairy- I didn't want hair all over the couch.
  2. He is large- There isn't room for a huge dog and a person
  3. Visitors- I didn't want visitors to worry about a dog jumping up on the couch, also I didn't want him to think it was ok to jump up on other people's furniture when visiting.
Of course, when he was a puppy he tried to jump up on the couch and bed all the time. I taught him the off command.

Now 5 plus years later I have relaxed a little. He still is not allowed on the furniture, but at times I will call him up on the bed.

Because of this rule, I do have many comfortable large dog beds laying all over the house so that he doesn't have to sleep on the hard floor.

Is your dog allowed up on the furniture or bed?

Talk to Me Thursday

I recently had a customer ask is BioMedic foam on the dog couches really worth the extra cost? When we asked the designer if they were really worth the extra cost, below is the response I got.

Think of the BioMedic foam like the tempurpedic beds that are in the mall. Take 10 minutes next time you are there and relax on one. It is like nothing else. Chinese memory foam does not count, try American made or tempurpedic. You are probably going to want to buy a new bed.

Is there an added benefit:

For dogs under 10lbs, it is a minor benefit. For dogs 10-20 pounds it is a good benefit. For dogs over 20lbs it is a must.

Why the BioMedic foam is the best:

  1. The BioMedic American made memory foam is the most comfortable dog furniture available anywhere.
  2. They never wear out.
What is BioMedic foam?

It was originally developed by NASA for the space program, memory foam is the most comfortable sleep surface ever invented. The BioMedic memory foam orthopedic dog bed contours perfectly to your dog's body. It forms to your dog's exact shape providing even support and unparalleled comfort. Unlike other dog bed materials BioMedic memory foam disperses compression points that aggravate orthopedic conditions. It actually absorbs pressure instead of reflecting it back to your dog. This is perfect for older or challenged dogs, and any dog of any age appreciates the incredible comfort.

Other dog bed materials compress and compact at the points where the most weight is applied. The harder you press on these beds the more counter pressure or resistance is built up. These pressure points are why people and pets toss and turn at night to try to get away from the pressure build up and discomfort is causes. The obvious problem is that even with turning over the pressure points soon develop again. This is also why you, or your pet, wake up sore and unrested.

BioMedic orthopedic dog beds provide maximum comfort.

Poochieheaven carries many dog sofas that feature BioMedic foam.

Bessie & Barnie Sofa Bed

I LOVE Bessie & Barnie Dog Beds. Duke has two of them in the bagel shape and I've been wanting one for Jax, but he isn't a big fan of laying on actual dog beds, so I didn't want to get one and have it sitting around without being used.

Jax does like laying on furniture though- couches, chairs, etc. Bessie & Barnie has a sofa bed option that I thought I would try.

1. It is furniture like- which he enjoys sleeping on and wrestling with his mice in.
2. It would look super cute in the living, so even if he doesn't use it, it will still look nice (FYI: He is currently sleeping on the couch, next to me while I type...)

So far we have had to for 3 days. He has slept in it a handful of times and has played with his mice in it a handful of time.

The thing I love about Bessie and Barnie beds is the fact that they are available in sooo many different colors and designs. They have one to match your home decor no matter what it is. My favorite fabric is the rosebud fur. They are extremely soft. They are also made in the USA, so buy purchasing one, you are keeping jobs in the USA and do not need to worry about toxins from China.

Do you own a Bessie and Barnie bed?

Potty Training your Dog

Here are a few helpful tips when it comes to potty your new puppy or dog.

- Buy a dog crate. This is by far the number one thing that you can do to help potty train your dog. Dogs do not like to soil their "home". A dog's crate will soon become their home and they will hold their bladder until they are let you. One piece of advice though is make sure that you get a crate that is the correct size. If you get one too large, the dog will use one area as their sleeping area and one area as their potty area. If you have a puppy that will grow into a large dog as an adult and only want to buy one crate, many brands of crates will come with a divider panel you can add so that it makes the crate smaller and can grow with the dog.

- Keep your dog in your site at all times. When you are not home or can't wait them, put them in the crate. This is not cruel.

- When you have the puppy out and can watch it, put them on leash and tie it around your ankle, this way you will have an eye on your dog at all times. The important thing for potty training is to catch them before they have to go potty. Most dogs will have a signal that will tell you that they need to go to the bathroom.

- Don't punish the dog for doing insides, instead make going outside the greatest thing in the entire world. Praise, give treats, and praise more. Dogs love to please, they will know that going outside is what you want.

Good luck!

When your dog finally has become potty trained, don't forget to get them a dog bed that they can call their own!

Many Reasons for Dog Blankets

Dog blankets are a new and emerging must have in the dog world. This is because there are so many different things you can use these blankets. There is also so many different designs, colors, and sizes that all dog owners can find one that suits their needs.

Dog Blankets for Car Rides

Most dogs when they go on car rides either sleep on the back seat or in the back of a SUV or van. Most times these are not very comfortable places. By putting down a dog blanket you will make their ride much more comfortable. These blankets can also protect your car from dirt, mud, and pet hair. It is a lot easier to wash a blanket then to have to clean your entire car.

Dog Blankets for Carriers

While most dog carriers have a padded bottom they are still not the most comfortable, especially for aging dogs. By laying down a dog carrier blanket, you will provide an extra layer of warmth and comfort for those trips. They can also make a quick bed for your dog when you get to your destination. A blanket taken from home can also help lessen travel anxiety, because it will smell like home to them.

Dog Blankets at Home

There are several reasons why you would like to use a dog blanket at home. The first reason is to add an extra layer of comfort to a dog bed. Many dogs enjoy burrowing under something to stay nice and warm. Another reason why blankets for dogs are a good idea is because paired with a dog bed it could increase the time needed between washing the bed. By laying down a blanket you will get more dirt and hair on that so you can easily wash the blanket, compared to washing an entire dog bed. Lastly, many dogs have favorite sleeping spots in the house that are not their beds, but it is not possible to put a bed in these spots. By laying down a dog blanket in these spots you will give your dog more comfort. Also you will not have to clean as much because the blanket will collect the hair and dirt.

Two of my Favorite Brands

People will often comment that "wow, your products are so expensive" It is hard to explain sometimes over the internet and email that the items I sell are high quality products, things you won't find at the Walmarts and many can't be found at Petco. Just like everything in life, items that are higher quality are more expensive. At the same time, they also last longer, which is needed for the wear and tear that your dog will put these items through. Many of these items are the "designer" items in the pet industry.

Two of my favorite brand are Kwigy-Bo and Bessie and Barnie.

Kwigy-Bo is best known for their dog carriers. Theses carriers are amazing. I have never heard one complaint about them. These dog carriers come recommended by so many people that i was very excited to add them to my site. Kwigy-Bo also makes a variety of dog clothing, which is also of exceptional quality. There are many different colors and styles, including a more manly one, which are so hard to find! Buy a Kwigy-Bo Dog Carrier today!

Bessie and Barnie is best known for their dog beds. These beds are Made in the USA! Their dog beds are available in round, square, and a sofa style. They come in many different sizes and are available in hundreds of color and design options. They are exteremly high quality and won't break down after your dog has sleep on it for a month. Bessie & Barnie also makes a dog harness that is very well known and highly recommended. Buy a Bessie and Barnie Dog Bed today!
