Cat in China grows a pair of wings

This may be one of the oddest things I have ever seen in my life.

Feline was born normal but developed appendages at age 1, family says

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a … cat?

A kitty in Chongqing, China, is getting some extra-special attention these days: The furry feline has developed wings! Though born looking completely normal, once the cat hit the age of 1, he began growing wing-shaped appendages on either side of his spine, the U.K.'s Daily Mail reports.

While some think the bony limbs may be a mutation of some kind — or even a Siamese twin growing inside the cat — others speculate it's a genetic change perhaps caused by chemicals ingested by the kitty's mother while she was pregnant.

According to the cat's owners, he doesn't seem to mind his new wings — and he’s loving the attention he's received because of them!

Strange as the case may sound, winged felines are not unheard of. Back in August 2008, the U.K. Telegraph reported that tomcats in China's Sichuan province developed wing-like growths on their backs.

Veterinary experts said then that despite the hard inner core, the "wings" don't harm cats' quality of life or safety. According to the Telegraph's report, scientists believe the appendages developed due to grooming habits, a genetic defect or a hereditary skin condition.

Hip Doggie Clothes in People Magazine

For those that read People magazine, a line that we carry was recently featured in it!

Eddie from Frasier is seen wearing a Hip Doggie sweater with other clothes around him!

To get some Hip Doggie Dog Clothes for your dog visit Poochieheaven!

EDDIE
From Frasier
Played by Enzo
Enzo took over the role of Eddie in 2001 from his dad, Moose (who died in '06), and appeared in the family films My Dog Skipand See Spot Run. Though he once hated Moose and most other dogs, Enzo, 13, is now at peace with his seven canine housemates kept by trainer Mathilde de Cagny in Venice, Calif.—including Clyde from Marley & Me (see p. 122). But age has also brought on back problems—and put an end to Enzo's favorite pastime. "He loved playing ball all his life," says de Cagny, who says Enzo now has a new passion: "He walks my son to school every day."

Nutro Products Announces Voluntary Recall of Limited Range of Dry Cat Food Products

Contact: Monica BarrettNutro Products, Inc.

monica.barrett@effem.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Franklin, Tennessee (May 21, 2009) -- Today, Nutro Products announced a voluntary recall of select varieties of NUTRO® NATURAL CHOICE® COMPLETE CARE® Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO® MAX® Cat Dry Foods with “Best If Used By Dates” between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010. The cat food is being voluntarily recalled in the United States and ten additional countries. This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier.

Two mineral premixes were affected. One premix contained excessive levels of zinc and under-supplemented potassium. The second premix under-supplemented potassium. Both zinc and potassium are essential nutrients for cats and are added as nutritional supplements to NUTRO® dry cat food.

This issue was identified during an audit of our documentation from the supplier. An extensive review confirmed that only these two premixes were affected. This recall does not affect any NUTRO® dog food products, wet dog or cat food, or dog and cat treats.

Affected product was distributed to retail customers in all 50 states, as well as to customers in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, New Zealand, and Israel. We are working with all of our distributors and retail customers, in both the US and internationally, to ensure that the recalled products are not on store shelves. These products should not be sold or distributed further.

Consumers who have purchased affected product should immediately discontinue feeding the product to their cats, and switch to another product with a balanced nutritional profile. While we have received no consumer complaints related to this issue, cat owners should monitor their cat for symptoms, including a reduction in appetite or refusal of food, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea. If your cat is experiencing health issues or is pregnant, please contact your veterinarian.

Consumers who have purchased product affected by this voluntary recall should return it to their retailer for a full refund or exchange for another NUTRO® dry cat food product. Cat owners who have questions about the recall should call 1-800-833-5330 between the hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM CST, or visit www.nutroproducts.com.

Dog Treat Recipes

Peanut Butter and Banana Oat Drops

Ingredients
4 cups rolled oats
2 Tbsp ground flax seed
2 medium very ripe bananas
½ cup natural (no sugar or shortening added) peanut butter
½ cup water

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Mix together oats, flax seed, bananas, and peanut butter in an electric mixer. Add water and mix well. Drop ½ teaspoon-sized drops onto greased cookie sheet or roll out and cut with a cookie cutter (let dough stand for a few minutes before rolling; it’s sticky initially). Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown. The drops last longer and are delightfully crunchy if they are placed in a dehydrator for several hours after baking to remove all moisture. This can also be done in a low temperature (170 degrees) oven.

Berry Bountiful Bars

Ingredients
6 cups large flake rolled oats
1 Tbsp carob powder
6 Tbsp cold pressed safflower oil or another oil of your choice
4 Tbsp unsulphured blackstrap molasses
2 Tbsp unpasteurized local honey, e.g., wildflower, fireweed
1 tsp Manuka healing honey
4 eggs
1 cup sun dried unsulphured blueberries or other dried berries of your choice
1 cup boiling filtered water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Line a 9” x 12” baking dish with parchment paper.
Process 2 cups of the oats in a blender or food processor until finely ground.
Mix together all ingredients, except water, in a large mixing bowl.
Add the boiling water a little at a time, and continue to blend ingredients until the water is absorbed.
Spoon mixture into baking dish and press down with a wooden spoon until the mixture is an even thickness.
Bake for 45 minutes.
Remove from oven and score into small bars.
Allow berry bars to cool completely before storing in an open container.

Berry Bars freeze well and this recipe can easily be doubled.

What do you think of PETA?

While I think PETA's heart may be in the right place, I don't know if their actions really show the best of intentions.

Please note, this is just one organization's view, even though I have heard this before from other sources, as always, take everything you read with a grain of salt.

Read below and feel free to comment.

PETA Killed 95 Percent of Adoptable Pets in its Care During 2008

Hypocritical Animal Rights Group’s 2008 Disclosures Bring Pet Death Toll To 21,339

WASHINGTON DC – Today the nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) published documents online showing that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed 95 percent of the adoptable pets in its care during 2008. Despite years of public outrage over its euthanasia program, the animal rights group kills an average of 5.8 pets every day at its Norfolk, VA headquarters.

According to public records from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 2,124 pets last year and placed only seven in adoptive homes. Since 1998, a total of 21,339 dogs and cats have died at the hands of PETA workers.

Despite having a $32 million budget, PETA does not operate an adoption shelter. PETA employees make no discernible effort to find homes for the thousands of pets they kill every year. Last year, the Center for Consumer Freedom petitioned Virginia’s State Veterinarian to reclassify PETA as a slaughterhouse.

CCF Research Director David Martosko said: “PETA hasn’t slowed down its hypocritical killing machine one bit, but it keeps browbeating the rest of society with a phony ‘animal rights’ message. What about the rights of the thousands of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens that die in PETA’s headquarters building?”

Martosko added: “Since killing pets is A-OK with PETA, why should anyone listen to their demands about eating meat, using lab rats for medical research, or taking children to the circus?”

CCF obtained PETA’s “Animal Record” filings since 1998 from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Members of the public can see these documents at PetaKillsAnimals.com.

In addition to exposing PETA’s hypocritical record of killing defenseless animals, the Center for Consumer Freedom has publicized the animal rights group’s ties to violent activists, and shed light on its aggressive message-marketing to children.

The Center for Consumer Freedom is a nonprofit coalition supported by restaurants, food companies, and consumers, working together to promote personal responsibility and protect consumer choices.

Two of my Favorite Brands

People will often comment that "wow, your products are so expensive" It is hard to explain sometimes over the internet and email that the items I sell are high quality products, things you won't find at the Walmarts and many can't be found at Petco. Just like everything in life, items that are higher quality are more expensive. At the same time, they also last longer, which is needed for the wear and tear that your dog will put these items through. Many of these items are the "designer" items in the pet industry.

Two of my favorite brand are Kwigy-Bo and Bessie and Barnie.

Kwigy-Bo is best known for their dog carriers. Theses carriers are amazing. I have never heard one complaint about them. These dog carriers come recommended by so many people that i was very excited to add them to my site. Kwigy-Bo also makes a variety of dog clothing, which is also of exceptional quality. There are many different colors and styles, including a more manly one, which are so hard to find! Buy a Kwigy-Bo Dog Carrier today!

Bessie and Barnie is best known for their dog beds. These beds are Made in the USA! Their dog beds are available in round, square, and a sofa style. They come in many different sizes and are available in hundreds of color and design options. They are exteremly high quality and won't break down after your dog has sleep on it for a month. Bessie & Barnie also makes a dog harness that is very well known and highly recommended. Buy a Bessie and Barnie Dog Bed today!

Albino Deer in Wisconsin

Below is a great video about Albino deer in North Central Wisconsin. Living in Wisconsin and having the deer population we do, I have heard about single Albino deer. But I had not heard about this cluster of deer. It is simply amazing and beautiful.
