Help! My dog is chewing, what can I do?

Is your dog a destroyer? Do you have a new puppy that chews everything in your house? At Poochieheaven we have some options that will help you keep your sanity and keep your dog busy.

The first option to keep your dog busy is to give them some type of chews such as bully sticks or Himalayan dog chews.  They are chews that great tasting and will give your dog something they are supposed to chew on, rather than chewing on your shoes.

Another option is purchasing interactive dog toys. While your dog can not chew on these toys, they are great ways to keep your dog's mind active, which is just as important.

The last option, for those not wanting to always buy dog chews, it is buy some durable dog toys. While no toys are indestructible, the ones we carry come pretty close. These toys will allow your dog to chew on something without being able to eat through it.

Do you own a dog that has some digestive issues? Are you looking for an alternative to medicine?

If you own a dog that gets a lot of upset stomachs you may want to look into getting some canned pumpkin for your dog.  The neat thing about canned pumpkin is that it can work for both diarrhea and constipation.

Canned pumpkin (make sure it is not the pie filling) is also low in calories so you can use it as a filler when trying to have your dog lose weight.

Dog Life Jackets for Small Dogs

Life Jackets? Why would your dog need a life jacket?

Dog life jackets actually are very needed for many dogs.

When you are playing in your backyard and have an in ground pool, a small dog that falls into the pool could be deadly for your small dog.

Another time a dog life jacket would be a good idea for your small dog is when you are on a boat. If your dog was to fall over board while boating they may not have enough strength to keep swimming until you are able to get to them.

Keep your pooch safe with a life jacket for dogs!

Keep those teeth pearly white!

While we all love our dogs, we don't love gross dog breath.

There are several things that you can do to help keep your dog's teeth clean and your dog's breath fresh.

One thing you can do is feed your dog a raw diet. An important part of a raw diet is bones, especially raw meaty bones. By having your dog chew on raw meaty bones, it will help keep their teeth clean and the below products will not be needed. Besides the added health benefits, one of the added benefits to feeding a raw diet is that your dog's teeth will stay nice!

Another way to prevent bad dog breath is to brush your dog's teeth every day. We have an uniquely shaped dog toothbrush that will make cleaning your dog's teeth easy. This toothbrush as three sides so you can cover triple the space in one brush.

Along with a dog toothbrush, you will also need some toothpaste that is made for dogs. It is important to use toothpaste that is made for dogs, as human toothpaste can be dangerous.

The final option available at Poochieheaven to help keep your dog's teeth pearly white and spray on teeth cleaners. We have two options, Petzlife, available in a gel and spray, and KissAble Probiotic Oral Hygiene Spray. Both of these are sprayed on your dog's teeth and help to break down plaque and tarter.

Belly Bands for Dogs

Do you have a male dog that likes to mark in your house? Allow with training him to stop, an effective solution is using a dog belly band. A belly band goes around your dog's belly and stops the urine from coming in contact with your furniture, it is similar to a diaper.

Dog belly bands come in many different sizes and will make your life much easier!

Our most popular belly band is this Easy to Use Dog Belly Band. It comes in manly patterns and is easy to put on and off your dog.

An important thing to note, many people will put a female pad instead the belly bands to help soak up the urine.

Nina Ottosson: Plastic or Wood?

Should I Choose the Plastic or Wood Nina Ottosson Dog Toys?

Nina Ottosson Dog Toys are very popular, but it can be confusing to know which one or ones are best for your dog. Not only are there several different variations of the Nina Ottosson toys, but there are also plastic and wood variations.

Benefits of the Wood Nina Ottosson Toys

There are several benefits to the wood toys. There is a larger selection in the wood vs the plastic. This is great for dogs that need a lot of stimulus. The wood Nina Ottosson toys are also sturdier, thicker, and heavier. While there is not guidelines, I also find that the wood is better for large dogs due to them being more sturdy.

Negatives of the Wood Nina Ottosson Toys

There are some negatives to the wood toys. Due to them being wood, some dogs will want to chew on them and they will get ruined if your dog is allowed to chew on them. The wood toys are also more expensive than the plastic so for those concerned with price, the plastic may be a better choice. Finally, the wood toys take more time to clean. You can not just stick them in the sink to clean, you will have to wipe down by hand.

Benefits for the Plastic Nina Ottosson Toys

The benefits to the plastic toys are that they are easier to clean because they can be stuck in the sink and washed with your other dishes. They are less expensive compared to the wood. They are lighter and I think this makes them better for smaller dogs.

Negatives of the Plastic Nina Ottosson Toys.

While plastic, these toys are also able to be chewed on. There is also less variety in the plastic version of these toys.
