Talk to Me Thursday

This weeks topic for Talk to Me Thursday: Sizing Dog Shoes

The most common item at Poochieheaven that is returned is dog shoes. 90% of the time it is because they are the wrong size. Without being able to try on shoes, it can be difficult to find the correct size pair. Below we will offer some tips on how to get the correct size dog shoe.

First: Not all sizing is the same. Look at the size chart. Just because your dog is a medium in one brand, doesn't mean they will be a medium in this brand.
Second: Not all shoes are made for all sized dogs. Look at the size chart. Many times, if you have a Labrador, those cute sandals are not going to fit. Many cute dog related items are made for small dogs.

Just these two tips will save you many problems and the hassle of returns.

After you have made sure the shoes you want will fit your dog, next is figure out the correct size of dog shoes. To find the correct size shoe, you will need to measure the bottom of your dog's paw. You will need both the width and length measurement. The best way to do this is to get a paw print on a piece of paper of your dog's paw. If you are unable to do this, then have your dog sit still and measure your dog's actual paw.

After you have your dog's paw measurement, you will need to compare this to the size charts on each dog shoe's page. You want to get the size that is closest to your dog's size, but you want to go larger rather than smaller. If the best size is almost too large, then it would be best to get a pair of dog socks to wear along with the shoes to make your dog's paw slightly larger.
